Nijgadh - (Future Vision)

Nijgadh Vision: A Future Built on the Philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother

Rooted in the spiritual teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, Nijgadh is envisioned as the next chapter in the growth of Sri Aurobindo Yoga Mandir. This future ashram will embody their ideals of holistic development, integrating spirituality, sustainable living, and community service. Our plan for Nijgadh builds on the guiding principles of self-realization, collective progress, and harmonious living, as espoused by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

1. Seamless Connectivity with Kathmandu

The new Fast Track Road linking the Terai region to Kathmandu will make Nijgadh easily accessible within one hour from the capital. This enhanced connectivity will:

  • Facilitate the flow of visitors, students, and devotees to the new ashram.
  • Connect Nijgadh with the spiritual and economic heart of Nepal, fostering a strong relationship between the capital and this evolving spiritual center.
  • Create opportunities for the exchange of ideas, goods, and services between Kathmandu and the Terai region.
  • This crucial development sets the foundation for Nijgadh to become not only a spiritual retreat but also a center for economic and agricultural innovation.

2. Relocating the Cow Farm: A Step Towards Sustainability

As part of the ongoing commitment to sustainable and ethical farming, the cow farm from the current ashram location will be relocated to Nijgadh. This move aligns with the spiritual vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, where nature and human life are interwoven:

Better facilities and ample grazing land will support the health and productivity of the cows.

The farm will operate as a model of sustainable agriculture, producing dairy products such as milk, ghee, and yogurt.

The farm will be a practical example of integral yoga, where work and service are aligned with spiritual growth.

3. Organic Agricultural Hub: A Vision for Sustainable Growth

True to Sri Aurobindo’s vision of divine life on earth, Nijgadh will evolve into an Organic Agricultural Hub, promoting sustainable living and self-sufficiency. Here, agriculture will be a spiritual practice as much as an economic one:

The hub will promote organic farming, respecting the land and environment in accordance with the ashram’s principles.

It will become a center of innovation, merging ancient agricultural wisdom with modern techniques.

The produce grown here will nourish not only the ashram’s residents but also support the larger community, reflecting the philosophy of service to humanity.

4. Short Organic Farming Classes

Following The Mother’s teachings on education as a tool for transformation, Nijgadh will offer short organic farming classes for those interested in learning about sustainable agriculture. These classes will:

Provide practical instruction on organic farming techniques.

Offer insight into the spiritual dimension of working with nature and respecting the earth.

Encourage participants to adopt a lifestyle aligned with both personal growth and environmental stewardship.

5. Agricultural Internship Program

The Agricultural Internship Program at Nijgadh offers a unique, hands-on experience in organic farming, deeply inspired by the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. This program integrates practical agricultural work with the spiritual practice of Karma Yoga, allowing participants to contribute meaningfully while growing both personally and spiritually.

Contributing to the Organic Hub

Interns will actively participate in the day-to-day operations of the Organic Agricultural Hub, learning from seasoned farmers and experts. They will:

  • Work with the land, gaining practical knowledge in organic cultivation, composting, and sustainable farming techniques.
  • Contribute to the growth of the organic farm, playing a key role in planting, harvesting, and maintaining crops.
  • Learn how spirituality and sustainable farming are interconnected, fostering respect for nature and a holistic approach to agriculture.

Fostering Unity and Collective Progress

Interns will experience teamwork and collaboration, essential to the collective vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. They will:

  • Engage in group farming activities, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.
  • Understand how collective progress comes through each individual’s effort, contributing to the overall success of the farm and community.

6. Karma Yoga: Self-Realization Through Selfless Service

Central to the ashram’s philosophy will be the practice of Karma Yoga, where work is done not for personal gain but for the upliftment of all. This concept, deeply rooted in the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, will be at the heart of Nijgadh’s vision:

All community members, interns, and visitors will have the opportunity to engage in selfless service, whether in the fields, the cow farm, or other aspects of the ashram.

Karma Yoga will be a path to self-realization, with each individual’s work contributing to both personal and collective spiritual progress.

The entire concept of Nijgadh as an ashram will serve as a living embodiment of the Integral Yoga, where work, learning, and spiritual practice come together in service to the Divine.

Nijgadh will not only be an agricultural and spiritual hub but also a living manifestation of the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. As the new branch of Sri Aurobindo Yoga Mandir, this ashram will create a space for individuals to engage in spiritual growth, sustainable living, and selfless service, building a community that works towards the transformation of consciousness and the upliftment of humanity.
